When one is facing a hearing loss challenge, quite often, many people will wait for up to seven years before addressing it with an audiologist; that’s seven years of missing parts of the conversation, potentially ignoring loved ones trying to get your attention, not hearing important instructions at work…
Hearing loss can affect anyone, regardless of their age. If you’re in your fifties and have noticed some hearing loss challenges recently, it’s important that you get your hearing tested sooner rather than later.
How Can a Hearing Assessment Help Me?
There’s no shame in getting a hearing test; whether you have some level of hearing loss already or you’d rather be cautious and ahead of the game, taking care of your hearing health can lead to positive effects on your entire body’s health.
I’ve seen many people in their fifties come in to get their hearing tested, feeling skeptical or even uncomfortable with the idea of hearing care. It’s not news that people don’t view hearing aids positively, seeing them as a negative sign of getting older. However, that stigma associated with hearing aids is changing.
Professional hearing care has been proven to help your balance, your mental health, and your cognitive functions. Your ears do a lot more for you than just hear!
It can be hard to ask for help, especially for something related to your health. But if you’re here, chances are you’re already on your way to starting your hearing health journey.
What Happens during a Hearing Assessment?
Your comprehensive hearing assessment will take up to an hour to complete and will provide you with a detailed explanation of your current range of hearing and potential moves to help enhance it.
We start with a conversation about you – your hobbies, your lifestyle, your family history, and any medical information that we need to best understand what you need to help your hearing. By learning more about you, we can get a stronger picture of what could’ve caused your hearing loss challenges … and we like to get to know our patients, too!
After a quick ear cleaning and examination to make sure impacted earwax isn’t the culprit, we move into the hearing assessment. With a few different examinations to test your hearing, we’ll gather a range of information on your current hearing levels, including your speech understanding in noise, seeing how your ears hear different tones and frequencies, and more.
You’ll get the results on the same day—no long waiting periods—and we’ll chat with you about how to treat your hearing loss, whether it be with hearing aids, sound therapy, or hearing protection at your job.
We’re here to help every step of the way. No matter your age range, hearing care isn’t out of reach if you’re dealing with a hearing loss challenge.
