Here in Northwest Florida, we’re grateful to be surrounded by an abundance of diverse local businesses that continue to help our communities thrive.

We love meeting patients and hearing about their favorite spots in the area and learning about the incredible people behind these businesses who bring so much to the local people and their livelihoods.

For this reason, we’re excited to kick-start our brand-new feature – Love Local!

The idea behind this monthly spotlight is to create a space for our team at The Hearing Center to share our most treasured local businesses in Pensacola, Gulf Breeze, and the surrounding areas that we’re lucky to call our community.

We’ll use this opportunity to highlight what we love about our chosen featured business as well as share some recommendations for you to try should you visit!

For the first of our Love Local features, we’re starting off strong with a business that is a real treat of a day out – The Oar House.

The Oar House is located just a few minutes from downtown Pensacola on Bayou Chico. I’ve been coming here ever since moving to Pensacola in September of 2021.

This place has the most beautiful views with a spectacular food and drink menu that everyone can enjoy. The service is always friendly and fun, and you get a real sense of local atmosphere when you visit.

The restaurant has many different areas to choose from to sit, depending on your personal preference – quiet, lively, harbor-view, tiki bar, indoor restaurant, or the patio.

My Favorite Thing About The Oar House

If you’re into “dinner with a view,” then this is your place. I love watching all the boats coming in and out of the harbor while I enjoy excellent food and drink.

Watching the sunset over the harbor has got to be the most perfect way to end the evening – look at this view!

My Recommendations And Tips For Your Visit

If sunsets, great atmosphere, and amazing food sound like something you’d enjoy, then The Oar House is where you want to be.

If you’re stuck for choices on what to pick, order the cheese grits!

They are AMAZING!

For drinks, my go-to is always a Shipwrecker (Bushwaker) – they are the best in town!

Let us know what you try on the menu when you visit. I’d love to hear your recommendations, too.

The Oar House doesn’t take reservations and works on a “first come, first serve” basis – but they do accept to-go orders which you can request by contacting them here.

I hope you enjoy the place as much as I do!

Inga Barnes

My name is Inga Barnes and I am employed at the Hearing Center/Medical Center clinic as a Clinical Audiology Assistant. I started here in December of 2021. I am relatively new to the Pensacola area, as I recently moved here from La Crosse, Wisconsin in September of 2021. When I lived in Wisconsin, I worked for Gundersen Health System as an Audiology Technician and Certified Occupational Hearing Conservationist (COHC), focusing much of my time travelling to industrial facilities and conducting OSHA regulated hearing screenings. I've held several different positions in the healthcare field, but Audiology is by far my favorite! The most enjoyable part of my job is to see how excited our patients are when they put hearing aids in for the first time and see what a tremendous difference it can make for their quality of life. When not at work, I enjoy spending time with my partner and our mini golden-doodle. I can usually be found hiking or spending time at any one of the beautiful beaches in our area! My partner and I also own and operate a small business where we turn all the things we find on the beach into unique works of art!
I enjoy my life much more with my hearing back intact

The first time I noticed signs of a hearing loss was back when I was with the Memphis Police Force on the first anti-sniper unit (SWAT) team. Shooting many rounds of guns a week led to ringing in my ears, which it seemed was the start of my hearing loss.
The Hearing Center is the very best in the business. They were the most helpful in the profession that I had seen.
Since getting my hearing aids, I have no regrets. I enjoy my life much more with my hearing back intact.
If you are considering using The Hearing Center, expect to be impressed by the best in the hearing aid business. It’s wonderful to hear well again and I can’t thank them enough.

I was very impressed. The people were friendly and knowledgable.

I first noticed my hearing loss when I was having to ask people to repeat themselves a lot. I decided to get my first hearing test and I was very impressed with the service from The Hearing Center. The people were friendly and knowledgeable.
Now, I would not be able to cope without my hearing aids. I can now carry a conversation.
I can highly recommend seeking help from The Hearing Center if you are struggling with a hearing loss.

The Hearing Center truly cares about helping me.

I have visited many different hearing care providers over the years but none compare to the level of care I have received from Dr. LaBorde and the staff at The Hearing Center.
I can honestly say they have changed my life by helping me to regain hearing clarity. I highly recommend them.

I can hear my kids playing, I feel less tired, and I have more energy!

My hearing loss started when I was just 10 years old as a result of multiple ear infections. I was really struggling to hear, and as a result, I had to have a lot of ear construction to save my hearing. I was told that I would never be able to hear certain tones again.
For many years, I was living in a world of isolation and I believed that there was no way that I would get all of my hearing back. I had an opinion that hearing aids were for older people.
When I first approached The Hearing Center, everyone was very warm and welcoming, and it did not matter how many questions I had. They answered them and were very patient with me.
They fitted me with hearing aids and the results have been life-changing. I can hear my children. They can no longer come up behind me and scare me! I feel less tired, I have more energy, and as a result, I am losing weight.
Getting help with my hearing from The Hearing Center was the best thing I ever did!
