Because a face-to-face meeting represents a risk during our current situation, Tele-Audiology provides patients and audiologists a new way to connect in order to provide hearing healthcare. Using the video camera on your cell phone, computer, or tablet, you can communicate directly with your hearing care provider without having to schedule an office visit.

Though critical for following the social distancing restrictions of COVID, this service allows patients to meet with their audiologist without having to arrange childcare, take time off from work or travel long distances to come to the clinic. This can even mean that you can get personal care, remote programming, or troubleshooting assistance from your own audiologist even while you’re out of town on business, visiting family or enjoying some well-deserved vacation time.

In addition, tele-audiology allows anyone who has concerns about their hearing to receive no-obligation advice from an audiologist through a 15-minute initial consultation. This service helps encourage individuals who are hesitant or have reservations about visiting an audiologist to seek the help they need. Tele-audiology also makes it easier for family and friends to encourage their loved one to get help for their untreated hearing loss.

Setting up a Tele-Audiology Consultation Is a Snap

A tele-audiology consultation is as easy to set up as scheduling an appointment in the clinic, if not easier. Whether you are new to The Hearing Center or already one of our patients, here are the steps to follow for setting up a consultation, and what you can expect along the way:

1. Fill Out The “Schedule A Tele-Audiology Consultation” Form

Fill out the “Schedule A Tele-Audiology Consultation” form and one of our Hearing Center patient care specialists will contact you in order to schedule your appointment.

2. Receive A Confirmation Email

After confirming a scheduled time with your patient care specialist, you will receive a confirmation email. The email will contain information to help you set up and test the camera and microphone on your device and share the link needed to connect for your tele-audiology appointment.

3. Connect With An Audiologist

When the agreed-upon date and time arrive, you will be connected via tele-conferencing to one of our professional audiologists for a face-to-face consultation.

4. A No-Obligation, Initial Consultation

Our no-obligation, initial consultation will include a conversation about your occupation, lifestyle, hobbies, and activities you enjoy, your medical history and medications as well as the history of hearing loss in your family. We will listen to your concerns and reservations related to hearing loss and treatment for hearing loss and provide you with professional advice. If testing is necessary and something you want to pursue, we can make the necessary arrangement to provide a safe environment to conduct a comprehensive hearing test.

5. Troubleshooting Advice For Current Patients

Those who are already patients can also take advantage of The Hearing Center’s tele-audiology service to receive face-to-face troubleshooting advice, remote programming assistance or to have your questions answered by your hearing care provider just like you would if you were physically sitting in one of our offices.
